Ålesund

A beautiful island town (actually spanning several islands) on the west coast of Norway, the town was totally rebuilt following a catastrophic fire in 1904. It was reconstructed in just three years - and rebuilt in an astounding Art Nouveau style, with consistently designed, elegant buildings that make this one of the prettiest towns in Norway.

The dramatically high outcrop immediately to the east of the town makes for a stunning vantage point from which to view the town and its beautiful setting amidst surrounding, mountainous islands, which are often snow-capped.

If you are ever visiting Norway, this is well worth a diversion to visit.
