Dublin

Rich in culture, architecture and the history of its people, with their struggle for independence, Dublin is a diverse city that has fully embraced European values yet remains stoically Irish. The people are welcoming and optimistic, the humour is dry and playful, and there's a drink to be had on every street corner.

It's a busy city with a light, relaxed, “it'll be fine” atmosphere, yet there's always that awareness – especially if you're an English visitor – of the oppression that has been inflicted on its people over the years. And, if you want this awareness writ large and shoved in your face, then a visit to Kilmainham Gaol is essential.
