Another paradise for the photographer, although you do have to put in a bit of extra work and creativity if you want to produce something different to the vast numbers of shots of the Cumbrian mountains already available – but then that's true of so many subjects.

For me, that's an interesting topic in itself: I could spend half a lifetime researching classic shots of Lakeland Fells, in the vain hope of calculating a better spot to position myself, an unusual angle of view, a different time of day or type of light. In the end I think most of us take the shots that mean something to us at the time – and that remind us that we've been somewhere that means something a little special to us. And I can see nothing wrong with that.
