Slovenia

Similar to its capital, Ljubljana, much of the rest of Slovenia is also understated and beautiful. The lakes of Bled and Bohinj offer glorious, tranquil landscapes, perfect for walking, watersports and other activities; while the charming medieval town of Piran justifies its nickname of 'little Venice'.

And there are beaches too – not a lot, as Slovenia has less than 30 miles of coast, but there is still plenty to explore, from the sun-worshipping resort of Portorož to the pretty, welcoming towns of Izola and Koper.
