Inscription Paintings

The paint is built up in thick layers, of different colours, until it's deep enough to inscribe. Then the surface may be polished with one or more treatments, such as thinned paint or other paint diluents.

For the painting 'Man's Minute', the area of the whole painting represents the age of the earth; the small, incut rectangle (in the centre, between 'man's' and 'minute') represents human time spent upon it: a ratio of 9,400 to 1: about one week to one minute.
